Athens Generating Plant

Size:	1080 MW gas-fired electric generation plant
Location:	Town of Athens, north of Catskill, New York
Proposed by:	Athens Generating Co., L.P. (an affiliate of PG&E Generating, formerly U.S. Generating Company)

Schedule:	The power plant went into commercial service in 2004. The application was filed on August 28, 1998 and was accepted on October 22, 1998. The Pre-hearing Conference and Public Statement Hearings were held on November 9 and 10, 1998. Evidentiary hearings began on March 15, 1999, and were completed on June 15, 1999. The Judge's Recommended Decision was issued September 3, 1999. The Chairman of the Siting Board requested additional information on November 30, 1999. Hearings were held January 26 and 27, 2000 on the requested new information.
Approved:	The Siting Board approved the project on June 13, 2000 and issued an Order and Opinion dated June 15, 2000. The Army Corps of Engineers granted its permits May 25, 2001. Site construction commenced May 26, 2001 and operations scheduled for summer 2004.
Hearings	The Athens Siting Board met on August 8, 2000, to consider whether there should be a rehearing of the Order and Opinion granted June 15, 2000. The petition for rehearing was denied.
